About Barbara

I fell in love with words when I was growing up and I realized they had power. They held the power to get me things I wanted and to express my deepest feelings. I was always a quiet reserved child, but when I picked up my pen I felt powerful.

I dabbled in writing short stories and poems over the years.  I even kept a diary back in the day when those were things we kept locked away so others could not see them.  I even tried my hand at writing a song or two.  I taught English for twenty-three years.

As I walked, talked, exercised, and made my way through the day I would think about the things I wanted to say.  The things I wished I could explain to people and make them understand.  The things I felt and believed, but would not dare whisper. When I sat down to write the words just flowed.

I have spent a lot of years in counseling over the years and have mulled over the events of my life.  They have impacted me greatly and I have come to realize there are things that others can gain from my experiences.  We do not all have to have the same set of circumstances in order to learn from one another.  So, one day, with the encouragement of a friend, I sat down and began to pen Through the Haze:  Living With Limited Vision.

Through the Haze allows us to take the journey of living with limited eyesight.  We can laugh at some of the antics, be angry over the hurts and bullying, cry about the disappointments and failures, and rejoice in the victories both small and large.

It points out to us the importance of being there for people who should not travel their life journey alone. Thank you for allowing us to share the journey and showing us how important out Faith is in our own journey.

Having known the author her entire life did not prepare me for the insight into her innermost thoughts shared in “Through the Haze, Living with Limited Vision”.

Thank you, Barbara Holton, for allowing us to share in your life journey.  Tears for your struggles, lots of laughter, with shouts of joy as you persevered and came out victorious.  May we learn to be encouragers for each other that no one has to walk the path alone.
